My name is Andrew Miller and I am the Founder of Business Enjoyment.

My purpose is to bring joy back into business and create a movement where everyone is talking about enjoyment as the key measure of success rather than just sales and profits.

For nearly 17 years, I worked as an Insolvency Practitioner - working with businesses that were in financial difficutly with the intention of rescuing them if possible or, if not, trading them through an insolvency and selling them on to a new buyer and saving the jobs.

However, I soon realised that there is more to business than just the business. The person at the centre of it all is just as important and there wasn’t any support for them.

The emotional impact on a business owner is immense and that can prevent them from making good decisions at critical times. More importantly, the loss of a business can have a much more devastating impact on the owner, damaging them in ways that can only be appreciated by people that have been there.

I retrained as a coach and a therapist so that I could provide personal support, as well as business support, to those going through the worst that business can throw at you. On top of working closely with business owners going through such hardships, I also spent time interviewing people that had already experienced insolvency.

What had happened to them? How did they react and feel? What could they have done differently? How did they get through? What advice would they give to someone going through something similar?

Combining their answers with my own experience, I created this book

“Hope Won’t Pay the Wages”

the first ever self-help book for business owners going through financial difficulty and insolvency.

“The best business book I’ve read in ages”

“A great book help for struggling business owners”

“The raw emotion sometimes makes for an uncomfortable read. Despite the book's title, however, there is also a strong message of hope. But only if you face up to the problems, take action and seek help. Done early enough, they may save the business. Otherwise, it's time to let the business go and the book tells you how to pick yourself up, get back in the air again and move on.”

“ I urge you to read it if your business is in that position. It may or may not help save your business. It will certainly save you from many hours of grief, heartache or depression as you realise that there are options, there are solutions and most of all, that you are not alone in what you are enduring.”

“Whilst Andrew's intention with the book is to provide a survival guide for someone who has already experienced a busines catastrophe, there are lessons here for all in business. The signs to look out for. Not burying you head in the sand. Seeking help. Talking to loved ones. Not taking it as a personal insult. The list goes on. This is entertaining and readable as well as being highly informative.”

“Andrew Miller tells us warts and all what it can really be like to be in business by giving insightful and honest true stories together with practical, life saving tips. Sharing real life experiences, mistakes and common misconceptions, this little book provides straight-talking practical advice on how to see a way forward or find a way out when the going gets lonely and tough in business.”

“This is a long over due book as I'm sure the many businesses that have gone under in the last 10 years will agree with. Getting good help and support through such a traumatic event I imagine is difficult. The accountants and banks may not seem to be supportive and well meaning friends and family probably have not had the experience themselves and do not know what to say. Good advice on the practicalities and also the emotional side has been long awaited and the author delivers both in this book.”

An excellent, unique read with clarity and vision.”

”The experiences shared in the book show how hard it hits on personal level, affecting not only the person involved, but close family/friends too. Andrew would be an immense asset to have on your side if the going gets tough.

If you don’t know which way to turn and believe that you are out of options, then think again. But action is needed. Now!

After all, Hope Won’t Pay the Wages.
